DeSylvaWitt is derived from Nick and Peter's respective family trees.
Nick's great great grandmother was a refugee from the Portuguese revolution of the late 19 century, who to court favour, presented herself as the Countess DeSylva. The jury is out as to whether she really was royalty or the whole thing was just a ruse to find a welcoming home in the UK Midlands.
Peter's great, great, grandfather from the mid 19th century was called DeWitt so DeSylvaWitt seemed to fit the moment.
Peter Keen Peter began playing clubs in a "cabaret showband" in the midlands in the early to mid 1970's progressing to found Esra Pound (originally Ezra Pound) with brother Max & Gary Davies.
He has been writing with Nick on & off since they were teenagers after meeting at infant school. Today, he just enjoys writing & recording their music, be it rock, pop, orchestral or folk & getting around to finishing the numerous pieces they have amassed over the years.
A splendid time was had by all with the ‘fab that went before’, namely Tom the Frop and their magnificent Shabbey Road. Forever thankful for the sides-splitting times we have together, far too numerous to mention, happy times boys, happy times!
Nick DeSylva "My life’s passion is music, performing, writing and producing."
"I have worked as a performance musician and composer my whole life. l feel privileged to have shared both stage & studio with some brilliant musicians including the CBSO, Jake Thackray, Cosmotheka. I even once pimped the PA for Tony Blair!" Formerly a Lecturer in Music Production Nick has hosted and interviewed a diverse array of music industry guests, notably Oscar- winning sound designer Norman Wanstall (Goldfinger), Steve Harley (Come Up and See Me), John Otway (Really Free), David Lowe (composer BBC News, Countryfile, Grand Designs), Paul Farrer (composer Weakest Link) & Gordon Giltrap (Heartsong).
Conservation has always played a big part in Nick's life. "I was lucky to work in Uganda for a year as Programme Co-ordinator of the Kibale Forest Eco- tourism project. My brief was to develop an eco-tourism facility allowing visitors to observe the chimpanzees and other native primates. Kibale was subsequently gazetted a National Park. What an honour to have played a small part in this success story!"
Nick now continues his interest by contributing to coral reef conservation in both Mauritius and Figi. "In 2009 I made a promotional film for Reef Conservation Mauritius, had a fun time and worked with great bunch of people!"
